TV news security guard dies from gunshot injuries suffered in armed robbery attempt in Oakland

A security guard who was shot in Oakland earlier this week has died, police said on Saturday.

The security guard was working with TV news station, KRON 4 News, when he was shot during an attempted robbery on November 24 covering a smash-and-grab theft, part of a rash of organized retail crime in the Bay Area, police said.

The shooting victim is identified as retired police officer Kevin Nishita, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s office.

The Oakland police department told ABC7 News in a written statement:

“This unfortunate loss of life marks the City of Oakland’s 126th life lost to violence. This death is now being investigated by the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section.”
